Selket, the scorpion-headed goddess of ancient Egypt, has various attributions. On the one hand, she is considered the patron goddess of healers, as she can heal bites and stings from poisonous animals, and on the other, she is considered the patron goddess of the four sons of Horus.
At the birth of Horus, Isis was stung by a scorpion, Selket stood by her side and was thus chosen, together with Isis, Neith and Nephtys, to be the protector of Horus' children, whereby she is also considered the protectress of children in general.

Even if there are doubts about the attribution to the scorpion on the head, the artist has taken the artistic liberty of modelling it in this version.

This small sculpture is complex to make. First of all, the Nubian priestess head and the scorpion - which has to be assembled from six individual parts in wax and over-modelled before it can be cast - have to be produced and reworked individually. They are then joined together using a TIG welding process and reworked again.
Each figure is unique. They all diverge slightly, in welding angle and polish, but above all in the alignment of the scorpion legs.
The bronze is cast in Berlin, reworked and finally chiselled and polished by Isabella Devinast herself. You will receive a unique small sculpture that is made by hand from start to finish.

Kopf der Selketpriesterin

Selket, die skorpionköpfige Göttin Altägyptens, hat verschiedene Zuschreibungen. Zum einen gilt sie als Schutzgöttin der Heilkundigen, da sie Bisse und Stiche giftiger Tiere heilen kann, zum anderen gilt sie als Schutzgöttin der vier Horussöhne.
Bei der Geburt von Horus wurde Isis von einem Skorpion gestochen, Selket stand ihr zur Seite und wurde so danach zusammen mit Isis, Neith und Nephtys zur Schützerin der Kinder von Horus auserkoren, wodurch sie zudem noch als Schützerin der Kinder im allgemeinen gilt.

Auch, wenn an der Zuordnung zum Skorpion auf dem Kopf durchaus Zweifel anzumelden sind, so nimmt sich die Künstlerin dennoch die künstlerische Freiheit, sie in dieser Version modelliert zu haben.

Diese Kleinskulptur ist komplex herzustellen. Zunächst müssen der nubische Priesterinnenkopf und der Skorpion - der aus sechs Einzelteilen in Wachs zusammengesetzt und übermodelliert werden muß, bevor er gegossen werden kann - einzeln hergestellt und überarbeitet werden. Danach werden sie im WIG-Schweißverfahren zusammengefügt und erneut überarbeitet.
Jede Figur ist ein Unikat. Alle divergieren ein wenig, in Schweißwinkel und Politur, vor allem aber in der Ausrichtung der Skorpionbeine.
Die Bronze wird in Berlin gegossen, überarbeitet und schließlich von Isabella Devinast selbst ziseliert und poliert. Sie bekommen eine einzigartige Kleinskulptur, die von Anfang bis Ende von Hand hergestellt ist.
Wenn keine Arbeiten auf Lager sind, müssen ca. 3 Monate Herstellungszeit ab Order eingerechnet werden. Bitte haben Sie Verständnis dafür, daß gutes Handwerk seine Zeit braucht, und daß immer kleine Abweichungen in den Arbeiten sind.
